Constitution Day Scoop: Secrets & Surprises of the World’s Oldest Rulebook 🇺🇸
Happy Constitution Day! As we celebrate this incredible 237-year-old blueprint for our nation, we thought it’d be fun to dig up some quirky facts about its origins. Buckle up for some constitutional curiosities!
- Shhh – It’s a Secret:
Did you know the Constitutional Convention was like the VIP party of its time? Delegates were sworn to secrecy, and the convention hall was locked up tight to keep the discussions under wraps. This way, the Founding Fathers could hash out the details and make deals without the prying eyes of the public.
- TGFM (Thank Goodness for Madison):
Since everything was hush-hush, no official record of the debates was kept. But fear not—James Madison, often dubbed the “Father of the Constitution,” was there with his trusty notebook. He jotted down all the juicy details, and his notes, which were kept under wraps until after his death, provide our main source of insight into those intense debates.
- 71% Ain’t Bad:
Out of the 55 delegates who attended the Convention, only 39 signed the final draft. Some had to leave before the ink was dry, while others weren’t too keen on certain parts of the document (Or maybe John Hancock just didn’t leave them any room). Boy, were those 16 non-signers on the wrong side of history!
So, here’s to our Constitution, a document with its own set of intriguing stories and secrets, and the longest-surviving government rulebook in the world!
