Political campaign strategy firm

As we wrap up 2025, the CWJ Team is taking a moment to reflect on the ideas and conversations that shaped our year. From sharpening influence skills to understanding the systems that govern daily life, each Power Moves edition reminded us why learning, leading, and serving matter.

And because “Best Of” lists have a special place in our hearts, here are your top three Power Moves of 2025:

#3

Influence Like a Boss (Even If You’re Not One…Yet) 💼

We often equate influence with authority — a title, a vote, a corner office. But the most effective changemakers lead long before they’re in charge. Research shows informal influence—the ability to move people and shape priorities without positional power—is often the real game-changer.

In July, we explored how to build that kind of influence: aligning with decision-makers, translating technical ideas into outcomes leaders care about, and making sure your message lands. Your response made it clear how much these practical tools resonated.

#2

Your Summer Syllabus: Federalism 101📚

We revisited the fundamentals of federalism through Laura Jackson’s op-ed, “Federalism Isn’t Just for Textbooks — It Shapes Our Daily Lives.

Understanding how local, state, and federal governments share power isn’t just academic — it’s empowering. When you know how decisions are made, you can advocate more strategically and lead with greater clarity.

Your enthusiasm proved that lifelong learning isn’t optional for leaders. Many of you reported feeling more confident engaging in civic conversations after revisiting the basics.

And the Readers’ Choice award goes to…..

Projects Don’t Build Success, People Do! 👥🤝

This year’s top Power Moves was the September issue, where we highlighted three partners whose leadership defines what progress looks like:

  • Ray Nichols, who helped drive a transformative campaign for Gainesville ISD while navigating serious health challenges.
  • LaDarian Brown, whose passion fueled LongviewREADS! and contributed to an 8% jump in 3rd-grade reading levels across the region.
  • John Jones, who built Starbrite Therapeutic Equestrian Center into a thriving, year-round resource for riders of all abilities.

Their stories affirmed what we’ve always believed: strategy matters, but people make it possible.

Reflecting on these moments reinforces our core conviction at CWJ: connection fuels progress, strategy shapes action, and people create impact.
